Using a DVD Stand as Furniture

You have probably never thought of your DVD collection as display worthy.  Maybe it is because you don’t have a very nice way to display them.  This is probably right if you are still using the same cabinet or storage as you used when you lived in the dorm in college!

If you have 100 or more DVDs, why not display them?  Many people have book shelves filled with the many books that they have read.  This is a very typical site to see in any home.  Why not display all the DVDs and CDs that you own?  Show off your collection.

There are many manufacturers of DVD stands out there today.  You can purchase simple smaller units at Target or Walmart for less than $100.  Alternatively, you can spend over $1000 for a full wood piece of furniture to house and display your DVD collection.

How to make a selection on a DVD stand:

  • All manufacturers have websites.  Spend time on the internet looking at differences in sizes, costs, and materials for DVD stands.  Many larger retailers will carry the same products.  See who has it for less.
  • Choose a DVD stand that will accommodate your DVD collection today and tomorrow.  Buy one that is at least 25% larger than your current DVD count.  There many options today for DVD stands that hold 1000 DVDs.  This may sound like a lot of discs, but once you add up all your DVDs, CDs and video tapes, you may be surprised at how many you own.
  • Purchase a stand that has similar design and color to compliment the room that you are planning to place the unit.  Be sure to get a unit that is built of the same wood or material as the rest of the furniture in the room.
  • If you have children in your home, considering getting a DVD cabinet with a lock on it.  This will keep them out of your collection and keep the discs safe and scratch free.

Using a DVD stand as furniture is becoming a much more common site in most homes.
