Choosing Bedding for your Canopy Bed

There is some really great canopy bedding sets out there to go with your canopy bed. For me choosing the bedding is even more exciting then getting the bed. For me it is the choice of linens that really make the grand four poster come to life. So many different duvets, sheets, blankets and pillow cases to choose from.

It’s worth remembering, when it comes to interior design, that the furniture is really just the back drop to any room, the canvas if you like, on which you are going to make your design choices. Dressing the room and the furniture is what will really bring the overall look to life. That’s why on film shoots so much time and effort is spent “dressing” the set. It’s the little details that really give a room its authenticity.

When it comes to choosing canopy bedding please do pay close attention to all the relevant measurements. I think we all assume that a canopy bed is just one size, eg king size, but that is far from the case. You can now buy canopy beds in all the standard bed sizes which on the one hand is great but does mean you need to be sure you’re buying bedding that fits. I would recommend consulting a decent canopy bed guide to work out the difference between a queen size and king size bed.  Be sure to check the labels carefully before any purchase.

You will need to keep this in mind for all the bedding including the mattress comforter, fitted sheets, duvet and duvet covers and of course the mattress itself, although typically you would expect to buy the canopy bed and mattress together. When it comes to pillows I would suggest getting a larger size so that the fill out the canopy bed to give it a luxurious feel.
